Computers for Kids

Enhance At-Home Learning

We collaborate with Computers for Kids, Inc and the State Department of Education, Division of Special Education (SDE) to offer computers to Idaho students with disabilities for free.

The program focuses on providing refurbished computers to eligible students. Funding is also available to provide computers to rural schools for use in resource rooms.

Our goal is to ensure that students with disabilities can enhance their education through the use of technology both at home and in school.

Student Eligibility and Application

There are limited funds available each year to help students with disabilities receive a refurbished computer for home use. To qualify for this program, your child must:

  • live in Idaho
  • be in public school (K-12), and
  • have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in place.

Applications are currently on hold.

Rural School Eligibility and Application

Limited funds are also available to pay for computers for Idaho rural school district resource rooms. To qualify for this program, your district must be serving students with disabilities who have an IEP in place.

All applications must be obtained and processed through the IATP office to qualify.

Applications are currently on hold.

If you have any questions about this program or applying for a computer, please call us at 1-800-432-8324 or email Mellowdee Brooks at mellowd@uidaho.edu.

Low-Cost Computers

If you do not meet these eligibility requirements, Computers for Kids may still be able to help you secure a computer.

Low-cost computers are available by application through their website. They offer options for K-12 students, schools, non-profits, college students and more.

Prices range from $100-185. Additional processing fees may apply.

Please visit the Computers for Kids website for more information, including application instructions.
